Volunteer Opportunities

Beth Israel Medical Center
Volunteering is a wonderful way to give to others in the metropolitan community. At Beth Israel, there are many ways to help give patients support and comfort. The following are just a few of the volunteer opportunities available throughout the year:

Hospice Volunteers
Volunteers are a vital part of the hospice program everywhere. According to the National Hospice Organization, over 70,000 volunteers serve in hospice programs in the United States. There are many ways volunteers can assist in the Jacob Perlow Hospice Program, including personal care assistance, general household tasks and bereavement counseling. Whether they just offer a listening ear or share their ownexperiences, volunteers make a big difference to the patients and their families.

For information on volunteering with Jacob Perlow Hospice, e-mail MEgan@chpnet.org

The Cancer Center
Positions available: day, evenings and weekends
Volunteers work directly with patients by visiting them and giving emotional support. There also other ways volunteers become involved with patients.

Library Volunteers
Positions available: day, evenings and weekends
Deliver reading materials and read to our elderly and pediatric patients.

Pediatric Advocates
Positions available: days only
If you have some time to spare during the day and love children, Beth Israel is in need of volunteers to make our pediatric patients smile. Come in and read to them or color and draw.

Clerical Opportunities
Volunteers who would like to help out in our busy offices can do so at various Beth Israel sites.

If you are interested in providing other services or in other areas within the hospital you should communicate your interests to our volunteer department.

How to Volunteer
The volunteer department tries to match the volunteer's interests with the specific needs of the site. After you've contacted the volunteer department, by phone or email, you can expect an immediate response in just 24 hours. All prospective volunteers must be 14 years of age or older and are asked to come in for an interview and fill out an application. They must also be medically cleared by their physicians to work with patients. In addition, students or individuals who are between the ages of 14-17 must provide working papers. If you wish to contact us through email, you can write to us at: twilliam@bethisraelny.org.
